Wildcat Volleyball Swept by Owls
Oct. 30, 2001 Philadelphia, Pa. --- The Villanova volleyball team suffered their third consecutive loss of the year on Tuesday, Oct. 30 dropping three straight games to the Temple Owls in a non-conference match played at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia, Pa. Game scores for the match were 30-17, 30-25 and 30-10 as the Owls swept the Wildcats for the second straight time this season. In the loss, the Wildcats were led by freshman setter Jennifer Badran-Grycan (Santa Monica, Calif./Palisades) who recorded 20 assists and eight digs. Junior hitter Leah Mathews (Poway, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) added six kills and seven digs in the losing effort. Leading Temple in the victory was sophomore hitter Yun Xu who tallied 16 of 29 kills for a .483 hitting percentage in addition to six defensive digs. Xu led an Owl team who out-hit the Wildcats 46-25 and .296 to -.009. With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 6-14 on the season as the Owls improve to 16-7.
Villanova will return to Big East action this weekend when they travel to Jamaica, N.Y. to battle against the St. John's Red Storm on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 P.M. The 'Cats will continue their weekend trip two days later against the Seton Hall Pirates in their last road match of the 2001 season. Match time is set for a 1:00 P.M. start.
