Washington, D.C. - After traveling to South Florida on Friday and suffering a very difficult loss, the Wildcats (12-12, 5-4) bounce right back on track Sunday with a come from behind victory at Georgetown (7-14, 1-7).

In the opening game, Villanova held the lead for the first half of the game until Georgtown rallied to take the lead at 19-18. They would go on from there to win the first game, 30-27.

Villanova did not get down, the responded with a 30-16 rout in game two, holding Georgetown to a negative hitting percentage for the game and hitting .343 themselves. The two teams were actually tied at 7-7, but the Wildcats offense began to click after that as they went on a 23-11 run to close out the game.

Game three was another close one, with neither team being able to get any separation early in the game. As the game got closer to the end, the Hoyas took a 24-23 lead, but Villanova battled back to knot the score at 29-29. From there, a kill by Alona Cherkez (Crimea, Ukraine) and a block by Kacy Sellers (Battle Creek, MI) and Chelsea Graman (Cincinnati, OH) gave the Wildcats the game, and a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Villanova used the momentum from the third game to jump out to a 10-1 lead and cruised to a 30-12 win to close out the match. In the final game, the `Cats hit .512 compared to GU's -.050.

Sellers led the Wildcats individually, posting 19 kills, a .455 hitting percentage, 10 digs and four blocks. Cherkez, Kelly Ludwig (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Adrian Semrau (Grafton, OH) were also in double figure kills with 15, 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

 

 

Dana Tartasky (Haifa, Israel) and Amy Gulyas (Allentown, PA) were solid on defense for the `Cats, with each logging 17 digs. Graman ran the Wildcats offense very well, contributing 41 assists in the win. It was the second time this season she has had at least 40 assists after she did so against Miami (Fla.) early in the year.

Villanova will conclude their three game road swing with a trip to Newark, Delaware on Wednesday to take on the University of Delaware, starting at 7 P.M.
