Villanova Extends BIG EAST Win Streak to Three Matches

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Villanova Volleyball team (12-6, 4-1 BIG EAST) extended its BIG EAST winning streak to three today (Sept. 6) as they downed West Virginia University (10-8, 1-4 BIG EAST), 3-2 (30-20, 30-27, 22-30, 29-31, 15-12). Both Dana Tartazky and Chelsea Graman recorded double-doubles in the effort.

"WVU served us pretty tough," said head coach Josh Steinbach. "They put us into some tough situations but when it came to the end of the match our players really stepped up and gutted out this victory."

Tartazky and Graman paced the offense and defense as Tartazky collected 19 kills and 13 digs while Graman picked up 56 assists and a team-leading 16 digs.

Seniors Alona Cherkez and Kacy Sellers continued their outstanding play as they had 23 and 16 kills, respectively.

As a team the Wildcats posted 14 blocks with Tartzaky picking up four solo stuffs while junior Whitney Harrington had seven total blocks.

Junior Emily Brown and sophomore Amy Gulyas picked up double-digit digs with 16 and 15, respectively.

The Wildcats jumped out early taking a quick two games to zero lead before the Mountaineers stormed back with the support of their hometown fans. With the matched tied at two games a piece the Wildcats came out and had their best hitting performance of the day hitting .409 as a team in the fifth game.
