Sept. 11, 2007
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova University volleyball team (5-3) opened its 2007 home campaign this evening (Sept. 11) in stunning fashion as the knocked of the University of Delaware (10-2) who entered the match 10-1. The Wildcats only needed four games to knock of the Fightin' Blue Hens, 30-28, 30-21, 24-30 and 30-22.
Senior Kacy Sellers and junior Dana Tartazky paced the Wildcats throughout the match as Villanova had to fight from behind in almost every game. Sellers and Tartazky both picked up double-doubles with Sellers getting a team-high 21 kills and 10 blocks while Tartazky had 14 kills and 12 digs.
The 10 blocks is a career-high for Sellers and she was not the only one breaking personal records as junior libero Emily Brown led the team with a career-high 19 digs.
"Both teams struggled out there today," said head coach Josh Steinbach. "We really relied on Kacy (Sellers) the entire match and I think Dana (Tartazky) played one or two of her best games there late in the match."
Sophomore setter Chelsea Graman continued her steady play as she picked up 56 assists while getting four blocks.
As a team the Wildcats out-hit, out-assisted and out-blocked their opposition on the way to victory.
Villanova's next contest will come at the Villanova Classic on Friday, September 14 as they take on Binghamton University at 3 p.m. before facing Liberty University at 7:30 p.m.
