LUBBOCK, Tex. - Closing out the Red Raider Round Up hosted by Texas Tech University, the Wildcats of Villanova University (2-2) had to rebound from an early morning loss to Southern Methodist University (5-0) to get a five game victory over Lamar University (3-4). Senior Alona Cherkez contributed her second double-double of the season with a 28 kill, 19 dig performance against Lamar while junior Dana Tartazky turned in her first with 12 kills and 20 digs.

Match number two against Lamar was a five-game journey that tested the resolve of the Wildcats. The team had just lost to SMU 3-0 in the morning session and found themselves down 2-1 after three games against Lamar. Despite Lamar's strong play, the Wildcat volleyballers were able to get a 30-24 victory in game four and a 18-16 win in game five.

Junior Emily Brown played well defensively once again collecting 18 digs. Sophomore Chelsea Graman continued her strong play collecting 63 assists versus Lamar and 37 against SMU.

Cherkez stepped up her game in the fourth picking up nine of her 22 kills while Tartazky collected nine of her 20 digs. Tartazky carried her momentum into game five as she had four of the Wildcats 10 kills.

In the first match of the day VU dropped a 3-0 loss to SMU. Cherkez had 15 kills along with six digs. Senior Kacy Sellers had 13 kills with four block assists while Brown collected 11 digs to lead the team.

The Wildcats wrapped up play in Lubbock, Tex. going 1-2 against very stellar competition and they won't have much of a break as they head to the University of North Carolina this Friday September 7 to compete in the UNC Classic against another set of tough competition.
