VILLANOVA, Pa.--For the 10th straight season the Villanova men's and women's indoor track & field teams will open competition by hosting the Jack Pyrah Invitational. The local meet takes place on Saturday afternoon at Haverford College, with the throwing events only being contested in Butler Annex on the Villanova campus.
The first meet of the season is always a chance for the Wildcats to evaluate where the teams are at early in the year. Villanova will mostly have its sprinters, middle distance runners, jumpers and throwers in competition this weekend. Other local teams participating in Saturday's meet are Haverford, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, Swarthmore, Temple and Widener.
Throwing events begin at 11 a.m. at Villanova, with the weight throw taking place first, followed by the shot put. Field events will also begin at 11 a.m. at Haverford. The high jump, long jump and pole vault all start concurrently, while the triple jump follows the long jump.
The first running event is the 3000 meters which takes place at 12 p.m. Other running events are the 60 meter hurdles, 60 meters, 500 meters, 300 meters, 800 meters, 1,000 meters, Mile and 4x400 meter relay.
