Eugene, Ore. - Sprinter Shericka Ward continued her brilliant first year on the main line by winning the 100m hurdles at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held in Eugene, Ore.

Ward won the event Friday night at historic Heyward Field in a personal best time of 13.47. In her first year she has shaved almost a full second off of her previous personal best.

After winning her semi-finals earlier in the day in a then-best time of 13.53, Ward ran a strong race in the finals and pulled away to win the title comfortably.

"The race went really well," Ward said. "In the prelims I didn't get a good start. For the final I worked on getting a better start so when I did get moving I was ready to go. When I hit a hurdle, I didn't let it bother me. I just started pumping my arms faster. It feels great to be a champion. I wanted to win, that was my main goal."

The victory earns Ward a spot to represent the United States at the upcoming Junior Pan-American Games scheduled to be held in Trinidad and Tobago July 31st-August 2nd.
