DES MOINES, Iowa--This week in Iowa the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships return to Drake Stadium and the Villanova trio of seniors Shericka Ward (Leesburg, Fla.) and Sheila Reid (Newmarket, Ont.) and junior Bogdana Mimic (Pancevo, Serbia) will be competing at the finals site of the NCAA meet for the third straight year. Ward is running in the 100 meter hurdles while both Reid and Mimic have qualified for the national championship race in the 5000 meters.

Ward will be the first of the three on the track when she runs in the national semifinals of the 100 meter hurdles at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday night. Ward advanced on time to this week's meet in the national quarterfinals at the NCAA East Regional two weeks ago. She was a second team All-American in the 100 meter hurdles last spring and a first team All-American indoors this year in the 60 meter hurdles.

There are three semifinal heats in the 100 hurdles and a total of eight sprinters from the semifinal field of 24 will advance to the national championship race on Saturday afternoon. The top two finishers in each heat plus the next best two times advance to the final.

Ward is running in the third semifinal heat and is one of only three athletes from the East region out of the eight in her heat. The top time for Ward this season is 13.16 at the Texas Relays back in March, a mark which ranked 15th best in the nation before the NCAA East Regional meet. Ward has run as fast as 13.12 in collegiate competition.

The last individual event held at this week's championships is the 5000 meters on Saturday afternoon, in which Reid and Mimic are automatic qualifiers based on a top-five finish in their national semifinal heats at the East Regional. Reid is the defending national champion in the event and Mimic was a second team All-American in the 5000 meters last year.

Reid and Mimic both ran personal best times in the 5000 earlier this season at the Mt. SAC Relays, where Reid's time of 15:23.64 broke an outdoor school record which had stood for more than 20 years. That time was also the 11th fastest outdoor time ever in an NCAA competition and shattered Reid's previous top time by 14 seconds.

Mimic crossed the finish line at the Mt. SAC Relays in 15:44.15 and set a personal best during that meet for the second straight year. She cut four seconds off her time from the Mt. SAC meet in 2011 and then came in second at the BIG EAST Championships before taking fifth place in her national semifinal heat.
