Women's Track and Field Competes at Widener Invitational

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The women's track and field team is set to compete at the Widener Invitational this weekend at Widener University.

Friday's track events are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., while Saturday's track events will kick off at 11:00 a.m. Saturday's field schedule begins at 9:00 a.m.

The Wildcats are looking to stay in the top of the East Region rankings, as this year only the top 96 athletes in each event will be eligible to compete for a spot in the NCAA Championships.

Villanova currently has 12 athletes ranked in the top-60 in the region in nine different events. This is also the second to last weekend to earn BIG EAST qualifying marks.

Sophomore Shericka Ward is ranked ninth in the 100m hurdles in the region and 18th in the 200m dash.

Junior Sheila Reid and senior Ellen Dougherty jumped into the rankings last weekend in the 800m run. Reid is 50th and Dougherty is 54th.

Reid ranks 12th in the region in the 1,500m run, where `Nova is well-represented. Sophomore Bogdana Mimic is 25th, freshman Ariann Neutts is 30th, senior Nicole Schappert is 31st, while freshman Brooke Simpson and junior Ali Smith are 33rd and 51st, respectively.

Mimic also ranks eighth in the 5,000m run.

Junior Kristen Mahon broke into the top-60 in the 400m hurdles last weekend and is currently 45th.

In the 3,000m steeplechase Smith holds the tenth-best time, while classmate Sarah Morrison ranks 58th.



In field events, junior Audrey Gariepy-Bogui jumped to 35th in the region in the high jump after her performance in Miami and classmate Ashlyn Llerandi remains at 13th in the pole vault.
