Senior Emily Lipari qualified for the final of the 1500 meters for the second straight year. This is also the fourth time in the last five years that Villanova has had a qualifier for the national championship race in the 1500 meters, with Sheila Reid previously doing so in both 2010 and 2011. Lipari's fourth place finish in the 1500 meters is the ninth top-four finish by a Villanova runner at the NCAA Championships.
Villanova has more All-Americans (23) in the 1500 meters than in any other outdoor event. The list of 23 All-Americans includes 21 first team All-Americans and two national champions. Lipari will become the 24th athlete in school history to receive at least two outdoor All-America honors in their careers.
Lipari is a two-time NCAA champion, 10-time All-American, 12-time BIG EAST champion and six-time Penn Relays champion during her sensational Villanova career. She was the indoor national champion in the Mile earlier this year and her win in the championship race began a streak of eight consecutive victories in individual races.
Sophomore Angel Piccirillo recorded a 12th place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:27.66. She was making her first career individual appearance at the NCAA Championships. Piccirillo had previously been a two-time All-American indoors in the distance medley relay. She is also a four-time BIG EAST champion and a four-time Penn Relays champion during her Villanova career. Piccirillo will be the 36th athlete in school history to receive at least one career outdoor All-America honor.
