Reid Posts the Fastest Time of the Day in 1,500m Opening Round

The Villanova women's track and field squad concluded the first day of competition at the 2010 NCAA East Regional and three Wildcats have advanced on to the weekend's quarterfinals.

Junior Sheila Reid posted the fastest time of the day in the first round of the 1,500m run to advance to the quarterfinal round scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. Reid crossed the finish line in 4:20.25. Senior Ellen Dougherty was close behind her recording a time of 4:21.17, which was the day's third fastest time. Also advancing to the quarterfinals was senior Nicole Schappert who finished in 4:23.56. Brooke Simpson ran the event in 4:31.45, but missed the cut for the quarterfinals.

In the high jump, junior Audrey Gariepy-Bogui cleared 1.69 meters.

Sophomore Shericka Ward will make her debut in the first round of the 100m hurdles on Friday at 5:00 p.m., while junior Ali Smith will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase at 9:10 p.m. Classmate Ashlyn Llerandi will begin pole vault competition at 4:00 p.m.
