PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Katherine Petruzzellis (Annandale, N.J.) scored a total of 4,646 points to win the heptathlon on the second day of the Larry Ellis Invitational and Villanova competed in four events at Weaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Petruzzellis led the way with her win in the heptathlon and the Wildcats also had athletes taking part in the high jump, triple jump and pole vault.

Petruzzellis was in second place after the first four events of the heptathlon were completed on Friday night. In the three events that were contested on Saturday afternoon Petruzzellis recorded the top performance in the javelin with a distance of 33.21 meters. That was enough to put her into the lead and her time of 2:29.85 in the closing 800 meters was third out of the six competitors and gave Petruzzellis a margin of victory of 31 points. She also came in fifth in the high jump (4.84 meters) in the first event of the day.

Sophomore Alexandra Wasik (Medina, Ohio) led a group of four Villanova athletes with a second place finish in the pole vault. She was the runner-up out of 13 entries and cleared a height of 3.88 meters. Freshman Virginia LaMacchia (Bloomsburg, Pa.) finished third (3.80 meters), while freshman Abigail Nolte (Branchburg, N.J.) and sophomore Kathleen McPhillips (Carlisle, Pa.) tied for sixth place with marks of 3.60 meters.

In the triple jump freshman Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.) set a new personal best mark for the third time this season. She came in fourth overall in the event and recorded a distance off 11.86 meters, surpassing her previous best of 11.59 meters established at the Colonial Relays earlier this month.
