Walden Places Fourth in 100 Meter Hurdles at Larry Ellis Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - On the second and final day of competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational, Villanova had athletes competing in five running events and five field events at Weaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Junior sprinter Emerald Walden (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) placed fourth individually in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.86 to lead a number of strong Wildcats performances.

Walden finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles and freshman Veronica Scott (Plymouth, N.H.) came in 13th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.23.

The freshman trio of Kalissa Caesar (Port Jervis, N.Y.), Emma Biggs (Amherst, Mass.) and Arielle Massillon (Charlotte, N.C.) competed in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Caesar led the way in both events, finishing ninth in the 100 meters with a personal best time of 12.31 and 19th in the 200 meters (25.55). Biggs registered finishes of 15th in the 100 meters (12.71) and 36th in the 200 meters (26.33), while Massillon came in 27th in the 100 meters (13.18) and 48th in the 200 meters (27.09).

Villanova fielded an entry in the 4x100 meter relay and finished ninth out of 12 teams in 48.61.

In the field events sophomore Virginia LaMacchia (Bloomsburg, Pa.) led a group of four Wildcats with a third place finish. She cleared the bar at 3.70 meters and each of the other three Villanova athletes cleared heights of 3.55 meters. Sophomore Abigail Nolte (Branchburg, N.J.) came in fourth overall, while freshman Alexandra Elder (Moorestown, N.J.) and graduate student Bianca Reo (Parsippany, N.J.) each tied for eighth place. The mark of 3.55 meters for Elder set a new personal best.



Sophomore Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.) tied for fourth place in the long jump and recorded a personal best mark of 5.47 meters, while freshman Ekiah Lewis (San Bernardino, Calif.) tied for 11th place and registered a distance of 5.20 meters. Senior Victoria Profit (Nissequogue, N.Y.) came in seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 11.70 meters.

In the throws sophomore Alita Ostapkovich (Bensalem, Pa.) came in 11th in the hammer (43.94m) and freshman Carolina Hamilton (Nottingham, Pa.) finished 17th in the javelin (31.92m).
