PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Katherine Petruzzellis (Annandale, N.J.) stands in second place after four events in the heptathlon and Villanova also competed in two running events on the first night of the Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Stadium on Friday night. Runners competed for the Wildcats in the Elite sections of both the 800 meters and the 1500 meters.
Petruzzellis is one of seven competitors in the heptathlon and she was the top performer in both the high jump and the shot put in Friday afternoon. She set a personal best with a distance of 11.36 meters in the shot put and also tied for first in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.65 meters. In the other two events contested Petruzzellis came in third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.58) and fourth in the 200 meters (26.95). She has a total of 2,897 points and is 53 points off the lead with three events remaining.
In the 800 meters senior Shannon Browne (Staten Island, N.Y.) came in 24th out of 51 runners with a time of 2:13.42, while sophomore Amanda Borroughs (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished 34th in 2:15.89.
Senior Ariann Neutts (Succasunna, N.J.) competed in the 1500 meters and placed 17th in a field of 41 runners with a time of 4:32.69.
