VILLANOVA, Pa. - The women's track and field squad was in Gainesville, Fla. over the weekend participating in the Florida Relays in preparation for the remainder of the 2008 outdoor season.

Numerous athletes earned BIG EAST qualifying marks.

Senior distance runner Frances Koons ran a regional qualifying mark of 2:09.66 in the 800m. This is her second regional qualifying time after running one in the 1500m last weekend.

Senior Liz Haglund and freshman Callie Hogan finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 1500m. Both had BIG EAST qualifying times as Hagland finished in 4:28.49, while Hogan crossed the finish line in 4:28.98.

The Wildcats added two more conference qualifying marks in the 400m hurdles. Freshman Kristen Mahon finished fourth overall with a time of 1:00.86 that missed a regional qualifying mark by just four hundredths of a second. Junior Jordan Sarruda qualified to the conference championships finishing in 1:03.94.

In the 400m, freshman Jessona McDonald and sophomore Makalia Griffith ran BIG EAST qualifying times of 55.30 and 55.70 respectively.

In the throws, senior Abby Smith qualified to the conference championship with a throw of 39.29 in the javelin.

Freshman Ashlyn Llerandi cleared the pole vault at 3.50m to qualify for the BIG EAST Championships.
