AUSTIN, Texas - Senior sprinter Shericka Ward (Leesburg, Fla.) and freshman Emerald Walden (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) each competed in the 100 meter hurdles at the Mike A. Meyers Track and Soccer Stadium during the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays over the weekend. Ward was one of nine runners from a group of 74 that advanced from the preliminary heats into the finals.
In her preliminary heat Ward crossed the finish line with a time of 13.16 and recorded the second-fastest time in the entire field of 74 hurdlers. That time was only four-hundredths of a second off of Ward's personal best of 13.12 and was also a mere one-hundredth of a second behind the leading time of 13.15 in the preliminaries set by Kori Carter of Stanford.
Ward went on to place sixth in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.29, this time coming in ahead of Carter, who placed seventh.
In the preliminary heats Walden crossed the finish line with a time of 14.35, placing fourth in her heat and 42nd overall in the field.
