PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The outdoor track & field season opened on Saturday afternoon with Villanova competing in the Philadelphia College Classic against other local teams at Franklin Field. The Wildcats won four of the 10 events they entered in the meet, including two running events and two field events.
Senior Summer Cook (Thornton, Colo.) established a personal best in the 1500 meters and came in first of 27 runners with a time of 4:29.89, nearly six seconds faster than her previous top mark. Cook was one of seven Villanova entries in the 1500 meters and the Wildcats accounted for four of the first six runners across the finish line.
The other victory on the track came from junior Mary Bohi (Shamong, N.J.), who led a field of five competitors with a time of 1:04.99 in the 400 meter hurdles. Bohi was a BIG EAST qualifier in the event last season.
Junior Samantha Yeats (Califon, N.J.) and freshman Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.) were victorious in the high jump and the long jump, respectively. Yeats cleared a height of 1.73 meters and headlined a field of eight entries in the high jump, while Yahiro led five competitors in the long jump with a new personal best distance of 5.32 meters.
