FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Junior middle distance runner Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) ran the 3000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday night, completing a weekend in which she doubled up for Villanova in the distance medley relay as well as tonight's individual race. Lipari came in 14th in the 3000 meters to wrap up competition for the Wildcats at Randal Tyson Track.

A talented group of 16 runners made up the field for the championship race in the 3000 meters on Saturday night and Lipari finished with a time of 9:30.54. This is the second straight year that she has qualified as an individual for the NCAA Championships after previously running in the Mile last year.

Lipari had an early lead in Saturday night's race and was in fifth place after the first Mile before the field spread out over the second half of the race. Abbey D'Agostino from Dartmouth won the title with a margin of victory of more than five seconds.

Villanova took part in two events at this weekend's national meet and was also the runner-up in the distance medley relay last night. Lipari anchored the relay with a split of 4:33.52 over the final 1600 meters.

The indoor season has been a successful one for Lipari, who was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year earlier this week. At the BIG EAST Championships last month Lipari repeated as the individual champion in the 1000 meters and also anchored the Wildcats to the conference title in the 4x800 meter relay for the second straight year.

Villanova opens its outdoor track & field season in two weeks at the Philadelphia College Classic.
