BOSTON, Mass. - Junior distance runner Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) had an incredible race in the Mile at the Boston University Last Chance Meet and surged up the national performance list this season with a time of 4:36.40 at the Track & Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. Villanova had five athletes competing in three individual events at the meet.

Schappert had one of the best performances of her career in the Mile and crossed the finish line with a time that beat her previous personal best by more than three seconds. The mark of 4:36.40 ranks 18th in the nation this season and surpasses the time of 4:39.45 that Schappert registered at the Armory Collegiate Invitational last month.

This is the ninth time in the last six indoor seasons that the Wildcats have had an athlete break 4:40 in the Mile. Schappert (twice) and senior teammate Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) account for six of those nine races. At the BIG EAST Championships last month Schappert earned a third place finish in the Mile and received All-BIG EAST honors. Sophomore Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) also ran the Mile and finished in seventh place with a time of 4:40.53.

Senior Nicky Akande (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and sophomore Kelsey Margey (Huntington, N.Y.) competed in the 800 meters. Akande led a field of 17 runners and won the event with a time of 2:06.18, while Margey placed sixth in 2:09.34.

In the 200 meters junior Varonica Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) was the runner-up out of 17 entries with a time of 24.26.
