Villanova head coach Gina Procaccio...
On winning the team title: It was a nail-biter. After the 3000 meters we were down by 10 points and we were waiting on the results of the high jump when the 4x800 relay started. I was yelling to the 4x800 runners `no option' because we absolutely had to win that relay in order to get the team title.
On the 4x800 meter relay: Nicky [Akande] got the baton for the third leg and she was down. She had a lot of ground to make up and she caught the girl from Georgetown within three laps. That was huge because of the mistake in the laps [all the runners on the third leg of the relay ran one less lap than they should have]. If Nicky didn't catch the Georgetown girl as quickly as she did we probably don't win the race and that could have been really bad in the final team results.
On the type of team effort it took to win this weekend: It was just amazing stuff. We had pole vaulter Virginia LaMacchia go to [jumps coach] Talen Singer and tell him that she did the high jump in high school. She saw the opportunity and she wanted to do it. Kathleen McPhillips did the same thing and competed in the triple jump. It took a true team effort to win it. That is what the whole team had been talking about coming into it. I am really happy for them that they pulled it off.
On having the potential for several NCAA qualifiers: The DMR lowered their time and that should be good enough to get us to nationals. That was the whole point of going for it yesterday. Kelsey [Margey], Angel [Piccirillo] and Nicky [Akande] are all close and have a shot to qualify for nationals. Emily Lipari is there in the Mile. For us to come out of this meet with all of those times is huge.
