Villanova Women Finish Fourth at BIG EAST Indoor Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Villanova women's track and field squad finished day two of the 2009 BIG EAST Indoor Championships and earned fourth place by a slim margin in the team competition at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory. The Wildcats had 74.50 team points, while fifth place Notre Dame finished with 74 points.
In the sprints, freshman Shericka Ward entered the meet ranked 14th in the 60m hurdles and eighth in the 200m, but jumped to a fifth place finish in both races. Ward ran 8.52 in the 60m hurdles and 24.42 in the 200m dash.
Sophomore Sheila Reid overcame a two week battle with the flu to finish second in the 1,000m clocking in at 2:46.59. Her time was a personal best by five seconds. Senior Ellen Dougherty was fifth in the 1,000m finishing in 2:49.73.
Senior Frances Koons was second in the 3,000m with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:21.15, while sophomore Amanda Marino finished the race in 9:30.62 to earn sixth place. Her time was a personal best by 11 seconds.
Running a personal best by six seconds in the mile, sophomore Sarah Morrison finished fourth clocking in at 4:50.21.
Junior Nicole Schappert was fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:11.87 to score for Villanova.
The Wildcats 4x800m quartet earned second place and finished in 8:46.51.
