Wildcats Finish Competition at Armory Collegiate Invitational

NEW YORK - This weekend's Armory Collegiate Invitational concluded on Saturday afternoon and Villanova had a total of six athletes competing in three running events and one field event at the New York Armory. The results for the day were highlighted by freshman Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.) establishing her third consecutive personal best mark in the triple jump.
Also performing well for the Wildcats on Saturday was freshman Kelsey Margey (Huntington, N.Y.), who ran in the championship section of the Mile and came in fourth out of 19 runners. Margey ran the Mile for the first time as a collegian and crossed the finish line in 4:41.78. Senior Ariann Neutts (Succasunna, N.J.) came in 11th in the race with a time of 4:49.51.
Sophomores Leanne Tucker (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Varonica Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) also ran in championship races. Tucker ran a season best time of 2:12.41 in the championship section of the 800 meters and came in 14th place. Johnson competed in the championship section of the 200 meters and recorded a time of 24.75, good for second in her individual heat and 23rd overall in a field of 49 competitors.
Yahiro competed in the college section of the triple jump and registered a distance of 11.54 meters. This is the second straight week that Yahiro has surpassed 11.5 meters in competition and she just surpassed her previous top mark of 11.53 meters which was accomplished at the Penn State National last week. Yahiro tied for 20th place in the college section of the triple jump and junior Victoria Profit (Nissequogue, N.Y.) came in 34th with a jump of 10.87 meters.
Villanova returns to action for the BIG EAST Championships later this month. The conference meet will be held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio on February 16-17. COMPLETE VILLANOVA RESULTS
