Seven Personal Bests Highlight Wildcats Results at Tiger Open

PRINCETON, N.J. - Redshirt freshman Caitlin Bungo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the Mile and Villanova had seven different athletes record personal best marks in the Tiger Open at Jadwyn Gym on Saturday afternoon. The meet featured the Wildcats competing in three running events and five field events.
Bungo and freshman Alexandra Russo (Bellport, N.Y.) placed first and second in the Mile and each established new top times for themselves. Bungo crossed the finish line with a winning time of 5:06.22, while Russo was the runner-up in 5:07.18. Each had previously run personal best times in the Mile at the Jack Pyrah Invitational, with Bungo eclipsing her mark of 5:18.10 from the 2012 meet by more than 10 seconds.
Freshman sprinters Kalissa Caesar (Port Jervis, N.Y.) and Emma Biggs (Amherst, Mass.) competed in the 60 meters and the 200 meters. Caesar advanced to the finals of the 60 meters and came in fourth in the final heat with a personal best time of 8.01. Earlier in the meet she had tied for third place out of 26 runners in the preliminary heats with a time of 8.02. Biggs was tied for 20th place after the preliminaries with a time of 8.35. In the 200 meters, Caesar tied for 10th place (26.57) and Biggs finished 12th (26.90).
In the field events juniors Alexandra Wasik (Medina, Ohio) and Kathleen McPhillips (Carlisle, Pa.) notched second place finishes in the pole vault and the long jump, respectively. Wasik cleared a height of 3.90 meters in the pole vault to lead a group of six Villanova athletes that competed in the event. McPhillips came in second in the long jump with a mark of 5.41 meters and was sixth in the pole vault (3.70m).
The rest of the pole vault results for the Wildcats included a fourth place finish for sophomore Virginia LaMacchia (Bloomsburg, Pa.), who came in fourth with a height of 3.80 meters. Graduate student Bianca Reo (Parsippany, N.J.) was fifth (3.70m), while sophomore Abigail Nolte (Branchburg, N.J.) and freshman Alexandra Elder (Moorestown, N.J.) were ninth (3.50m) and tied for 11th (3.30m), respectively.
Sophomore Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.) set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 5.40 meters and finished third out of the 21 competitors in the event. Senior Victoria Profit (Nissequogue, N.Y.) competed in the high jump and tied for seventh place with a height of 1.55 meters.
In the throwing events sophomore Alita Ostapkovich (Bethlehem, Pa.) continued her strong season with a fourth place finish in the weight throw (14.62m) and a seventh place finish in the shot put (11.38m). Her distance in the shot put was a personal best and surpassed the mark of 11.35 meters she had set at the Widener Invitational last season. Freshmen Kristen Erickson (Princeton, Mass.) and Claudia Tishler (Medford, Mass.) tallied personal best marks in the shot put (11.21m) and the weight throw (11.46m), respectively.
Villanova returns to action at the Penn State National next week.
