NEWARK, Del. - Villanova fared well in the middle distance events and won a total of five events at the Delaware Winter Invitational on Saturday. The competition was held at the Delaware Fieldhouse and included several members of the Wildcats who were in competition.
Freshmen Laura O'Sullivan (Havertown, Pa.) and Kaitlyn Tallman (Mindemoya, Ontario) each claimed victories in the 800 meters and the 1,000 meter run, respectively. O'Sullivan registered a time of 2:26.94 to finish first out of seven entries, while Tallman posted a mark of 3:00.96 to beat nine other competitors in her race. Also in the running events, senior Bridget Akard (Carmel, Ind.) won the mile run in a time of 5:13.04.
Two other Wildcat wins came in the field events, as senior Kourtney Marquis (Yardley, Pa.) won the pole vault and junior Abby Smith (Columbia, Pa.) won the weight throw. Marquis' top mark in the pole vault was 3.35 meters, while Smith registered a distance of 13.14 meters in the weight throw.
Villanova is next in action on Friday and Saturday at the Penn State National Open.
