NEW YORK--Sophomore Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) won the Mile and Villanova had many strong performances at the Albany Great Dane Invitational, leading to a third place finish in the team standings at the New York Armory on Friday evening. Team points were awarded for finishing in the top eight of each event and the Wildcats registered 15 top-eight finishes covering 11 events en route to a team score of 68.5 points.
Lipari tallied her best collegiate time in the Mile with a mark of 4:42.35 and paced a field of 33 runners in the event. She also ran the second leg of the 4x400 meter relay and helped the top Villanova quartet win its heat and place seventh overall out of 27 competing relays.
Sophomore Nicky Akande (Lawrenceville, Ga.) had a terrific meet, finishing as the runner-up in the 1000 meters while also taking the third leg of the 4x400 meter relay. In the 1000 meters she crossed the finish line in 2:50.37 and shattered her previous personal best time by more than eight seconds.
The top relay squad for the Wildcats consisted of junior Ariann Neutts (Succasunna, N.J.) leading off, followed by Lipari and Akande ahead of freshman Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) in the anchor spot. The lineup consisting of middle distance runners finished with a time of 3:57.41 and won its heat by a margin of nearly five seconds.
A second Villanova relay was the runner-up in the same heat and recorded a time of 4:02.21. That lineup featured sophomore Mary Bohi (Shamong, N.J.), senior Erin Ryan (Doylestown, Pa.) and freshmen Leanne Tucker (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Amanda Borroughs (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.).
Schappert finished third individually in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.74 and freshman Courtney Chapman (Fayetteville, N.Y.) took fifth place in the Mile (4:49.08). In the 500 meters, Tucker and Ryan placed fifth and sixth overall and posted times of 1:17.17 and 1:17.44, respectively.

Johnson came in fifth in the 60 meters with a personal best time of 7.66 in the finals. She also placed 11th in the 200 meters (25.35). Walden, meanwhile, finished seventh in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.78.
In the field events freshman Alexandra Wasik (Medina, Ohio) led a strong group of Wildcats with a second place finish overall. She cleared a height of 3.75 meters, as did third place finisher Kathleen McPhillips (Carlisle, Pa.). Senior Melissa Meggiolaro (Whippany, N.J.) placed sixth (3.60m).
