Several Wildcats Qualify to BIG EAST Championships

BRONX, N.Y. - The Villanova women's track and field squad came away from the NYC Gotham Cup with several BIG EAST qualifying times as well as ECAC qualifiers. The Wildcats competed in Bronx, N.Y. over the weekend at The Armory track.

Ellen Dougherty, Ali Smith and Emily McMillan all hit the conference qualifying standard in the 1000m. Dougherty and Smith finished first and second respectively in the race. Dougherty crossed the finish line in 2:50.36, while Smith ran 2:54.95, which were also ECAC qualifying marks. McMillian was fourth overall with a time of 2:56.97, but was the third collegiate runner as the third place finisher was running unattached.

The Wildcats had four athletes qualify to the BIG EAST Championships in the mile. Kaitlyn Tallman ran 4:56.33 and was second overall, while Callie Hogan and Sarah Morrison finished third and fourth respectively. Hogan crossed the finish line in 4:58.78 while Morrison ran 5:00.09. Tallman, Hogan and Morrison also qualified to the ECAC Championships and were the top three collegiate finishers in the mile as the first place finisher was an open entry. Theresea Rush also ran a BIG EAST qualifying time in the mile as she finished eighth in 5:07.96.

Ashlyn Llerandi vaulted into the BIG EAST Championships clearing 3.45m and taking fourth place.

Shericka Ward ran 8.94 in the 60m hurdles to qualify to the conference championships.

Villanova will be back in action on Jan. 23 to compete in the Albany Great Dane Invitational.
