Senior Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) and junior Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) will compete at the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. this week. Both middle distance runners are qualifiers in the 1500 meters and they will race on Thursday and Saturday evenings in the national meet. The men's portion of the meet takes place on Wednesday and Friday.

Senior middle distance runner Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Villanova head coach Gina Procaccio were each among the regional award winners announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday afternoon. Schappert was chosen as the Mid-Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year and Procaccio was selected as the region's Head Coach of the Year.

On the final evening of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary, senior Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) and junior Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) each advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 1500 meters. Both runners competed in the first quarterfinal heat and were among the 12 competitors who advanced through to the national meet in Oregon next month. Senior Katherine Petruzzellis (Annandale, N.J.) also competed in the high jump at Hodges Stadium on Saturday night and wound up finishing 30th overall.

Freshman Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) ran a collegiate best time in the 800 meters on the second night of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary, where Villanova had three athletes in competition on Friday evening. Also competing at Hodges Stadium for the Wildcats were senior Varonica Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) in the 200 meters and junior Shanice Grant (Kingston, Jamaica) in the 100 meter hurdles.
