Senior Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) wrapped up a tremendous 2013-14 campaign with a fourth place finish in the 1500 meters at Hayward Field in the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon. Lipari and sophomore Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) placed fourth and 12th, respectively, in the final of the 1500 meters on the last day of the national meet. This is the second straight year that Lipari qualified for the final of her signature collegiate event.

Senior middle distance runner Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Year in the Mid-Atlantic Region in an announcement made by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday morning. Lipari has now received the honor once during her career in all three seasons of the year, including winning the award for the 2013 cross country season and for the 2012-13 indoor track & field campaign.

An incredible outdoor season to date for Villanova will culminate this week at the NCAA Championships, which take place from Wednesday through Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Senior Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) and sophomore Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) are each qualifiers in the 1500 meters for the Wildcats and will begin competition at the national meet on Thursday evening. Lipari is making her second straight appearance at the outdoor NCAA Championships, while Piccirillo is a national qualifier for the first time.
Top Times in 1500 Meters Send Lipari and Piccirillo to NCAA Championships
Senior Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.) and sophomore Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) each produced the best times of their collegiate careers in the national quarterfinals of the 1500 meters and advanced to the NCAA Championships during competition at Hodges Stadium in the NCAA East Preliminary on Saturday evening. Lipari set a meet record with a time of 4:14.64 and won her quarterfinal heat, while Piccirillo came in fourth in the same heat in 4:15.16 to also secure an automatic qualifying spot for the national championships.
Wasik Betters Own School Record in Pole Vault at NCAA East Preliminaries
Junior Alexandra Wasik (Medina, Ohio) soared over the bar at 4.15 meters to improve on her own school record in the pole vault during competition at the NCAA East Preliminary at Hodges Stadium on Friday afternoon. Wasik officially tied for 11th place in the pole vault and was one of three athletes in competition for Villanova on the second day of the preliminary meet. Later on Friday evening senior Samantha Yeats (Califon, N.J.) tied for 28th place in the high jump and senior Nicky Akande (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished 15th in the national quarterfinals of the 800 meters.

Senior Emily Lipari (Greenvale, N.Y.), sophomores Kelsey Margey (Huntington, N.Y.) and Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.), and junior Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) all were automatic qualifiers in the 1500 meters. Senior Nicky Akande (Lawrenceville, Ga.) won her first round heat and automatically advanced in the 800 meters.
