Youth Movement Thrives as Wildcats Win 4x1500 Meter Relay Title
A lot has been made this season of Villanova running with one of its youngest teams in recent memory. In the Championship of America race in the 4x1500 meter relay on Friday afternoon, a lineup of three true freshmen and one sophomore proved that their competitive grit trumped a lack of experience as the Wildcats won their 36th Penn Relays wheel all-time with a terrific team effort.
Shanice Grant Advances to Championship Heat of 100 Meter Hurdles at Penn Relays
Senior sprinter Shanice Grant (Kingston, Jamaica) and junior thrower Caroline Hamilton (Nottingham, Pa.) had two of the stronger individual performances for Villanova during competition at the Penn Relays on Friday afternoon. Grant advanced to the championship in the 100 meter hurdles and Hamilton finished fourth in her section of the javelin. Earlier in the day at Franklin Field, the Wildcats made headlines by winning the Championship of America race in the 4x1500 meter relay.
Wildcats Place Third in Women's Distance Medley Relay at Penn Relays
Freshman Sammy Bockoven (Hudson, Ohio) made her debut at the Penn Relays as the anchor of a Villanova lineup that placed third in the Championship of America distance medley relay at Franklin Field on Thursday evening. Sophomores Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland), Sidney Hayes (Spring Grove, Pa.) and Rebecca Del Rossi (Canton, N.Y.) preceded Bockoven and the Wildcats finished with a time of 11:21.77.

Anne Yahiro Named BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Villanova senior Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.) earned BIG EAST weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon when she was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week in an announcement by the conference office. Yahiro is coming off one of her best performances of the season, as she tallied the leading BIG EAST mark in the triple jump over the weekend.
Wildcats Wrap Up Busy Weekend on Second Day of Larry Ellis Invitational
A busy weekend of competition wrapped up for Villanova with a total of 14 athletes competing in 11 events at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon. One of the highlights from competition at Weaver Stadium on the final day of the two-day meet was a personal best time in the 400 meter hurdles by junior sprinter Arielle Massillon (Charlotte, N.C.), who recorded a time of 1:03.48.

Sophomore middle distance runner Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) had a big race in the 800 meters and was one of three Villanova standouts from the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night. Freshmen Sammy Bockoven (Hudson, Ohio) and Bella Burda (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) also had big results in the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters, respectively. There were a total of 11 athletes competing in five different events for the Wildcats at Weaver Stadium as a busy weekend of competition got underway.
Grant, Yahiro and Hamilton Tally First Place Finishes at Princeton Outdoor Invite
Seniors Shanice Grant (Kingston, Jamaica) and Anne Yahiro (Downers Grove, Ill.), and junior Caroline Hamilton (Nottingham, Pa.) all won their respective events during competition in the Princeton Outdoor Invite at Weaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Villanova came in fourth in the team standings at the meet and scored in a total of 11 different events overall.
