Records Fall as Women's Track & Field Wins Second Straight BIG EAST Outdoor Title
The dominance of the Villanova track & field programs continued in record-setting fashion this weekend and the Wildcats wrapped up their second straight outdoor BIG EAST titles a number of historic performances at Villanova Stadium in Saturday afternoon. This is the 10th time that the Villanova women's team has been outdoor conference champions, while the 2014-15 academic year marks the ninth time that the Wildcats have won both the indoor and outdoor titles in the same year.

Led by a conference champion in the pole vault for a second straight year, and a total of five top-three finishers on the first day of the BIG EAST Championships, Villanova is currently leading the team scores with 68 points at the midpoint of the conference meet. Heading into Saturday's final day of action at Villanova Stadium, the Wildcats have twice as many team points as any other team in the eight-team race. The majority of points will be scored during the final day of action.

Some of the top track & field athletes in the nation will take center stage at Villanova Stadium this week, where Villanova will be hosting the BIG EAST Championships for the fifth time in the past eight years. This is the 24th time overall that the Wildcats will host the conference meet. Eight women's teams and seven men's teams will compete on Friday and Saturday, and Villanova will be looking to defend both its men's and women's titles from last year.
Piccirillo and Schappert Run to Personal Top Times at Payton Jordan Invitational
Junior middle distance runner Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) and senior Stephanie Schappert (Delray Beach, Fla.) each ran personal times in the 1500 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford on Saturday night. In addition, their times from the race at Cobb Track and Angell Field put each of them in the top 15 in the nation on the current year's performance list.
Wildcats Tally Three First Place Finishes on Second Day at Princeton Open
Freshman sprinter Melissa June (Massapequa, N.Y.) tied for first place in a field of 18 competitors in the 100 meters and also anchored Villanova to a victory in the 4x100 meter relay during competition at the Princeton Open on Saturday afternoon. The two-day meet wrapped up at Weaver Stadium with the Wildcats recording a total of three first-place finishes.
Angel Piccirillo and Katherine Petruzzellis Earn Weekly BIG EAST Honors
Junior middle distance runner Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) and senior multi event standout Katherine Petruzzellis (Annandale, N.J.) were named the BIG EAST female track and field athletes of the week, respectively, in an announcement made by the conference on Friday morning. They each had terrific performances at the Penn Relays during the past week.

When she got the baton for the anchor leg of the 4x800 meter relay, junior Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) had a lead of just a few paces. By the time she rounded the curve and hit the backstretch of the Franklin Field track, the race was over. Piccirillo ran an anchor leg of 2:04.28 and Villanova won its third consecutive Championship of America title at the Penn Relays on Saturday afternoon. Piccirillo was named the Women's Athlete of the Meet for the relay events.
