Villanova won its fourth straight Championship of America title at the Penn Relays on April 23, 2015.
Ali Smith is in her second year as the Director of Operations for the men's and women's track & field teams in 2014-15. In her role she is involved in all day-to-day aspects of both the cross country and track & field programs. Smith was a two-time All-American and a BIG EAST champion for the Wildcats prior to joining the team's coaching staff.
During the 2013-14 academic year, Smith was a part of a staff which guided Villanova to incredible heights in the first year of the new-look BIG EAST Conference. The women's track & field team won conference titles both indoors and outdoors, while the men's track & field team captured a conference "Triple Crown" by winning championships in cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track & field.
From an individual standpoint the men's and women's cross country teams combined to produce three All-Americans, 11 All-Mid Atlantic Region performers and eight All-BIG EAST honorees. Villanova won both the men's and women's team titles at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional and both teams advanced to the NCAA Championships.
During the indoor track & field season the men's team produced three first team All-Americans and won seven different events at the BIG EAST Championships en route to claiming he team title. The women's team had a pair of first team All-Americans, including Emily Lipari winning the national championship in the Mile. Villanova also won six events on the women's side at the BIG EAST meet.
The men's team won six events at the outdoor BIG EAST Championships and sent four athletes to the NCAA Championships, while the women's team also won six events at the conference meet and had two NCAA qualifiers. The two teams combined had three first team All-Americans outdoors.
In addition to the Wildcats success in competition the track & field and cross country squads combined to have 68 student-athletes named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. The programs also had a combined eight selections to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. The track & field teams also featured both the Male and Female Senior Student-Athletes of the Year in Samuel Ellison and Emily Lipari, respectively.
Smith was part of Villanova teams that were extremely successful during her undergraduate career. She was a scoring member of back-to-back national championship cross country teams (2009, 2010) and received All-America honors individually in each of those seasons. She also was a three-time All-Mid Atlantic Region performer and received All-BIG EAST accolades on two occasions.
During her junior season Smith was the individual BIG EAST champion indoors in the 3000 meters. She earned consecutive All-BIG EAST honors in the 3000 meters and was also an All-BIG EAST performer in the 1000 meters and the 4x800 meter relay. During the outdoor track season Smith received All-BIG EAST honors in the 4x800 meter relay, the 3000 meter steeplechase and the 5000 meters. She ended her career ranked fourth in school history in the 3000 meter steeplechase and ninth in the 5000 meters, as well as being tied for seventh in cross country on a 6,000 meter course.
Smith graduated from Villanova in 2011 with a degree in Communication and also received her Master's degree in Public Administration from Villanova in 2013.
