St. John's Women's Tennis Team Takes Wildcats By Storm

Jamaica, N.Y......After four consecutive victories, the Villanova Women's Tennis team let one slip past them yesterday at St. John's University. The Red Storm won by a score of 3-4, which leaves the Wildcats with a 6-3 overall record on the season. Co-captain Julie Bonner (Senior / Newtown, PA) not only suffered the first loss of the afternoon, but she also suffered the first loss of her season at the hands of St. John's. Bonner's overall record currently stands at 6-1 at the No. 1 singles post. Freshman Julie Darne still remains undefeated on the season with an overall 8-0 record. Darne is currently 7-0 at No. 2 singles, and 1-0 at the No. 1 singles position. Fellow freshman Ashley Young (Easton, PA) also suffered her first loss on the season after two strong sets at the No. 4 singles post. Young is now currently 7-1 overall. In doubles action Bonner and Darne continue to dominate at the No. 1 doubles post, with a solid victory of 8-6 over St. John's. The Wildcats were defeated at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions.

Next up for the Wildcats........The Women's Tennis will team compete against the Temple Owls on Friday, October 9, 1998 at Radnor High School.
