Villanova Nipped By UMBC 4-3

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Despite several outstanding individual performances on Wednesday, September 16 at the Stanford Hall Tennis Courts, the Wildcat women's tennis team lost a heartbreaker to the UMBC Retreivers 4-3. With the loss, Villanova's record fell to 2-2 on the season.

Villanova was led by senior Julie Bonner who defeated UMBC's Nicole Russo in three sets, 5-7, 6-4 and 7-5 in No. 1 singles. With the victory, Bonner (Rumson, NJ / Hun School of Princeton) is now 3-0 overall. Freshman Julie Darne also tallied for an individual victory for the Wildcats, defeating the Retreiver's Kathryn Wheatley 6-2 and 6-4 in No. 2 singles. The Cats third victory of the afternoon came in No. 5 singles, as senior Maureen Kenney defeated UMBC's Karina Molsing.

The Wildcats next match is today, September 17 at West Chester University, followed by a match on September 22, at Lehigh University.
