Villanova, Pa. - Melissa Reed (Wyomissing, Pa.) graduated from the College of Commerce and Finance as the 2006 Bartley Medallion recipient this past Sunday.

She received her degree in finance.

Reed graduated from Villanova Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). She has the distinction of being the only senior Wildcat athlete in this year's class to cap her career with a perfect GPA.

The graduated senior earned a spot on the Dean's List every semester, and was recognized by the BIG EAST conference for her excellence in the classroom by being named a BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete.

The Bartley Medallion is given by the faculty of the College of Commerce and Finance in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in a specific discipline. It is the highest distinction the college can award to a graduating student and serves as a visible reflection of the significant contribution made by the recipient to the life of the college community.

Reed, a transfer from William & Mary, had a career singles record of 16-20 in two years at Villanova. She was primarily a doubles specialist in 2004-05, but finished with a 6-7 record in singles this season. She paired up with her younger sister, Ashley, in addition to classmate Lindsay Puchyr, at no. 2 doubles and in tournament play this season.
