Providence Upends Villanova, 6-1
For the second straight day, the Villanova women's tennis team (3-10, 0-2 BIG EAST) was upended at home as Providence (5-11, 1-3 BIG EAST) picked up a 6-1 victory over the Wildcats Saturday at the Villanova Tennis Complex on West Campus.

First serve comes against No. 8 seed Providence in the first round of the tournament. The winner advances to the quarterfinals where No. 1 DePaul awaits the following morning.

The Wildcats capped off the regular season on a high note fueled by a 5-2 win over Chestnut Hill on their home court. Boasting a 5-16 record during the year, Villanova hopes to use its recent momentum to catapult them to success in the tournament.

The Friars wrapped up the regular season 5-15 overall and 1-5 during conference action. The only triumph came against the Wildcats, 6-1 earlier in the month. Villanova struggled versus its conference foe with Mikelle Mancini earning the only victory from the No. 1 flight.

Last season, the Wildcats earned a No. 15 seed in the postseason before being bounced early by powerhouse USF and old rival Cincinnati.
