Villanova Loses Two

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Today, in women's tennis action at the Villanova Tennis Courts, Villanova dropped two matches to St. John's and Lafayette. The Wildcats lost to St. John's 4-3 and to Lafayette by a count of 5-1. With the two losses, Villanova falls to 4-7 on the season.

In singles play against St. John's, the Wildcats won three matches. At No. 2 singles, junior Colleen Obsitnik (Lansing MI/ Okemos H.S.) earned a 2-0 victory (6-2, 6-2), while junior Maureen Kenney (Lakeville, MA/ Apponequet Regional H.S.) and freshman Ellen Svetholz (Covington, KY/ Notre Dame Acad.) were just as impressive at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively with both tallying straight set victories. Kenney won by scores of 6-2, 6-4 with Svetholz earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory. In doubles play, the team of Kenney and Anne Morgan (Wheaton, Ill/ Benet Acad.) recorded a victory at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-1.

Against Lafayette, the lone Wildcat to tally a win was sophomore Katie Cooper who scored a thrilling 2-1 (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) win at No. 4 singles.

Villanova returns to action on Monday, Oct. 6 when they host Drexel at 3:30 p.m.
