Wildcats Remain Perfect In Victory Over Delaware

Villanova, Pa. - The women's tennis team continued their superb play on the 2001 fall season notching their sixth straight victory of the year, defeating the University of Delaware Blue Hens, 6-1, in a non-league match-up. Senior captains Ashley Young and Julie Darne led the Villanova cause defeating their Blue Hen opponents in the first and second singles positions, respectively. Young needed three games to beat Delaware's Elly Giese, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot as Darne dropped her opponent in straight sets. Junior Jen Zick, sophomore Jessie Rybacki and freshman Courtney Flezzani were victorious as well for the 'Cats. Zick gained her eighth win on the year at sixth singles, Rybacki improved her No. 3 season record to 8-3 and Flezzani notched her 11th win on the year winning in straight sets. In doubles play, Darne and sophomore Kelly McAndrew tallied their fifth victory at the top doubles spot picking up an 8-6 win. Young and Rybacki defeated their Blue Hen opponents, 8-4 as Farrell and Zick took the sole loss for the 'Cats dropping an 8-1 decision.
With the win, the 'Cats remain a perfect 6-0 on the year as Delaware drops to 2-1.
