Villanova Drops 7-0 Match to Delaware
Oct. 8, 2007
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Delaware this past Sunday at the West Campus Tennis Complex. The loss moves the Wildcats to 3-2 for the fall season, while Delaware notched its second straight shutout win. The Fightin' Blue Hens wasted no time in getting themselves on the board by sweeping all three doubles spots to roll out to an early 1-0 lead. Delaware's momentum carried into singles play as they cruised to victory in all six singles spots to extend their lead and shut out the Wildcats 7-0. Although Villanova struggled to secure points on Sunday afternoon, the Wildcats put up a fight throughout the entire match. Courtney Reed attempted to rally for a victory in No. 3 singles, but fell just short to Delaware's Elena Berry 6-1, 7-6 (1). Senior Ashley Reed also came close to stealing a point in No. 6 singles before faltering to Delaware's Kristen Mueller 6-4, 3-6, 12-10. The Wildcats are back in action this upcoming weekend as they head south to Newport News, Va. to compete in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitation of Newport News from Friday, Oct. 12 to Sunday, Oct. 14.
