Wildcats Fly By Hawks

Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova women's tennis team continued their stellar play on the young 2001 season to remain unbeaten, defeating St. Joseph's 6-1 in a non-league match-up. The Wildcats improve to a perfect 3-0 on the year with the victory. In the win, Villanova was led by senior captains Ashley Young and Julie Darne who were both victorious at the top two singles positions. Young notched her second win since taking over the No. 1 post defeating St. Joseph's Jance Hoy in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Darne, picking up her third straight victory at second singles, took care of the Hawk's Lydia Thomas in straight sets as well, 6-0, 6-4. Other Wildcats in the winning column included freshman Courtney Flezzani, sophomore Jessie Rybacki and junior Jen Zick. Flezzani has continued to excel in the fall season improving her overall record to 9-1 with the victory. Rybacki shut out St. Joseph's Pilar Glodzik in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 and Zick improved her 6-2 record with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Michelle Savage. In doubles action, Darne and McAndrew teamed up at the No. 1 spot to improve their season record to 4-3. Flezzani and Zick, victorious at No. 3 doubles, took home their fifth victory of the year.
The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 4 when they travel to Millersville, Pa. to square off with Millersville University
