Oct. 1, 2011
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--The tandem of sophomore Mikelle Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah) and freshman Sydney West won their first two matches in the Flight 1 doubles draw at the SJU Fall Invitational on Friday afternoon, advancing the pair of the semifinals of this weekend's tournament hosted by Saint Joseph's on the Maguire and Finnesey courts.
Mancini and West, now 4-1 on the season as doubles partners, won both of their matches on Friday afternoon in strong fashion. They took down Katherine Charchalis and Austin Denesuk of Lafayette by an 8-1 count in the first round and then defeated Samantha Carnall and Christina Harrington of Delaware by an 8-3 margin in the quarterfinals.
Only doubles matches were played on Friday and the tournament will pick up again on Saturday morning with both doubles and singles matches on the schedule. In the Flight 1 doubles semifinals Mancini and West will take on Zeynep Mafa and Marcela Rosales of Drexel.

Two other doubles pairs competed for the Wildcats in the Flight 2 doubles draw. Sophomore Amanda Nelson (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Aurora McQuade won their first match in a tiebreaker, advancing past Kate Dowd and Jenna Procyk from the host Hawks by a final of 9-8 (4). In the quarterfinals, Nelson and McQuade were knocked out in another tiebreaker, 9-8 (2), by the Drexel duo of Aysenil Orhon and Mel Reyes.
