Women's Tennis Defeats Fordham For Second Win Of The Season

Bronx, N.Y. - The Women's Tennis team traveled to Fordham University on Saturday, Sept. 29 where they defeated the Rams 5-2 in a non-league match-up. With the victory, the Wildcats pick up their second win of the season to remain a perfect 2-0. Villanova senior Julie Darne and sophomore Jessie Rybacki led four different Wildcat players with singles victories on the afternoon. Darne, playing at the second post, defeated the Ram's Xer-Li Woo in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Rybacki battled Alexandra Cazanelli in a closely played first game but held on to win in straight sets by a score of 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Courtney Flezzani and junior Jen Zick were victorious as well in their matches, competing at the fourth and six posts, respectively. In doubles play, the 'Cats lone loss came in No. 1 action as Darne and Kelly McAndrew were defeated, 8-4. Villanova's Ashley Young and Rybacki won their match, 8-6, at the No. 2 doubles and Flezzani and Zick picked up their fourth win of the season downing Fordham's Cazanelli and Christina Leavenworth, 8-6.
Villanova will resume play on Thursday, Oct. 4 when they travel to Millersville, Pa. to take on Millersville University in a non-league match-up. Match play is set for a 3:00 P.M. start.
