- The Villanova women's tennis team competed in the Bucknell Invitational Sept. 19-21. In Flight 'A' Singles, senior Dani Phillis tied for seventh place by defeating Ksenia Chernyshova of FDU, 3-6, 6-3 (12-10). In the same flight, junior Courtney Reed finished in a tie for fourth place defeating Bucknell's Ashley Globerman, 6-2, 6-3, while freshman Allison Solberg finished 13th.

In Flight 'B' Singles, senior Lyndsey Lostritto finished in second place as she defeated freshman Allie Harding in the semi finals (6-1, 6-1) before falling to Bucknell's Dumitrita Iepuras, 6-3, 6-1. Harding finished tied for third place as she beat Liz Larkin from Bucknell to advance to the semi-final round (7-6, 6-1). Also in Flight 'B,' Elizabeth Spelman ended in a tie for seventh place with a defeat of MSM's Emily Grugan (6-2, 6-1), while freshman Kristin Gobberg finished ninth with a 3-6, 6-3 (10-5) win over Lane Maloney of Loyola.

Freshman Michele Jordan and sophmores Natasha Stone and Katherine Monari all competed in Flight 'C' Singles. Jordan finished second by defeating Loyola's Jackie Lionetta in the semi-finals, 6-1, 5-7 (10-6) before falling to Liz Black of Bucknell, 6-3, 6-2. Stone tied for 11th defeating Megan Lee, 6-4, 6-0, while Monari ended the flight in a fourth place tie defeating Tina Martine from FDU, 6-3, 6-2.

The duo of senior Jaclyn Williamson and Solberg finished second in Flight 'A' Doubles by defeating sophomore Emily Urda and Gobberg, 8-3. Phillis/Reed and Urda/Gobberg finished tied for fourth in the flight.

 

 

The tandems of Jordan/Monari and Harding/Stone each won a match in Flight 'B' Singles, while Lostritto and Spelman finished second.

After rain cancelled the Sept. 28 match vs. Manhattan, Villanova returns to the court on Sunday, Oct. 5 to travel to Delaware. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
