BRONX, N.Y.--Candice Carlin and Leighann Reilly won their singles matches, but it was not enough to propel the Villanova women's tennis squad to victory as they fell to the Fordham University Rams Wednesday night, 5-2 on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. It marked the first loss for the `Cats this season.

The undefeated Rams (4-0) swept the Wildcats (2-1) in doubles matches, and posted four additional singles matches to claim the victory.

Christina Papa, Danielle Spigner, Lisa Vulin and Liz Murray each won their singles matches in straight sets. Candice Carlin had a convincing 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ellenoria Featherston at No. 1 singles, while Leighann Reilly battled to victory at No. 3 singles over Doina Sandor, 6-2, 7-6 (3)(10-3).

Villanova returns to action this weekend, Oct. 2-3, when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to compete in the Bucknell Invitational. They also travel to Delaware on Oct. 5 to take on the Blue Hens.
