Philadelphia, Pa. --- On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Villanova women's tennis team opened up the 2002 season sweeping the La Salle Explorers 7-0. With the victory, the Wildcats open the year at 1-0.

Senior Stephanie Ariot led Villanova at No. 1 singles defeating the Explorers's Megan Donahue 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. At second singles, sophomore Courtney Flezzani won 6-2, 6-0 over her La Salle opponent while junior Jessie Rybacki swept with a 6-0, 6-0 score. Freshman Lindsey Puchyr, senior Jen Zick and junor Erica Walter also picked up victories in the win for Villanova.

In doubles action, Rybacki and Courtney Flezzani were victorious at second doubles 8-1 while Morgan Flezzani and Walter picked up a win at the third post.

The Wildcats will look to keep up their winning ways on Wednesday, Sept. 18 when the travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to square off against Fordham at 3:00 p.m.
