Wildcats End Regular-Season on High Note

VILLANOVA, Pa. - In its last regular-season match of the season, the Villanova women's tennis team (5-16, 0-4 BIG EAST) ends the season on a high note as the Wildcats beat Chestnut Hill 5-2 on their home courts Friday afternoon at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
After splitting the first doubles matches, Anne Cognetti (Waverly, Pa.) joined Hayley Sanzone (Redding, Conn.) to slide past Oechsle and Craskey, 8-6 at the No. 3 flight to clinch the first point of the contest.
Villanova went on to pick up their fifth victory when they picked up victories in four of six singles contests.
Freshman Linley Busby (Charlotte, N.C.) played a perfect match (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 5 slot to grab the second point.
Senior captain Mikelle Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah) continued her strong play atop the singles slot when she breezed by Dawson, 6-2, 6-0, to make it 3-0 Villanova.
At the No. 2 position, Tori Smyth (Stamford, Conn.) grabbed the easy win, defeating Williams-Mulesa 6-3, 3-1 to clinch the win.
Senior Anne Cognetti (Waverly, Pa.) made it five points when she knocked off Owens 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 6 flight.
The Wildcats will look to embark in its first BIG EAST title beginning Thursday, April 24 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The tournament, hosted by St. John's, is set to run for four days as the schedule has yet to be determined.
