Final Home Match a Strong One as Wildcats Defeat Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-1

VILLANOVA, Pa. - In its final home match of the season Villanova (6-10) defeated Saint Francis (Pa.) (9-8) by a final score of 6-1 at the West Campus Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. The win was a dominant one for the Wildcats, who swept the doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches en route to the victory. Four of the wins in singles play came in straight sets.
Junior Mikelle Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah) and freshman Tori Smyth (Stamford, Conn.) were victorious in the top two singles matches and also combined for a win in the No. 1 doubles spot. They cruised to an 8-1 decision over Rafaela Panizza and Alex Sachs in their doubles match to start off on a strong note. In singles action Mancini defeated Panizza by set scores of 7-6 and 6-2, while Smyth was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Shivani Patel.
The other two doubles matches were each decided by 8-5 scores. Sophomore Sydney West (Washington, D.C.) and freshman Allison Kuse (Marietta, Ga.) won the No. 2 doubles match, while sophomore Kate Pettee (New Canaan, Conn.) and senior Wesleigh Donadio (Winter Park, Fla.) were winners in the No. 3 spot.
West played Lucy Jasso in the No. 3 singles match and was a 6-4, 6-3 winner. Junior Anne Cognetti (Waverly, Pa.) defeated Camila Diaz in the No. 6 singles spot, 6-0 and 6-1.
