Villanova Split's Saturday's Two Matches

VILLANOVA, Pa. After taking down Loyola Maryland 4-3 earlier in the day, the Villanova women's tennis team (4-14) was unable to collect its second win as NJIT (8-6) defeated the Wildcats 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
Villanova snapped its seven game skid when they were able to skate by Loyola Maryland (6-2-1) in the opener. Following the win, the team dropped the second-match of their doubleheader, which moved the Wildcats record to 4-14 on the year.
Following a defeat by the Loyola Greyhounds on the doubles point, Villanova rallied to collect four wins in singles action.
Samantha Schafer (River Forest, Ill.) breezed by Katelyn Hissong 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 flight to even the score at 1-1.
Tori Smyth (Stamford, Conn.) came from behind to retire Haleigh Morgus 3-6, 6-4, 2-0 in the No. 2 slot.
Linley Busby (Charlotte, N.C.) clinched the victory in a back-and-forth battle against Olivia Ott. The freshman knocked off Ott 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 position.
The Wildcats will return to action Wednesday at 1 p.m. when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on conference rival Georgetown.
