Wildcats Unable To Withstand Red Storm

Queens, N.Y. - Despite victories in three of the singles positions, Villanova eventually faltered to Big East opponent St. John's on Wednesday in Queens, N.Y. The 4-3 loss puts the Wildcats at 2-6 for the spring season, while the Red Storm improves to 7-7.
Villanova fell behind early as St. John's swept all three doubles spots to take a 1-0 lead. St. John's Alison Adamski and Nataly Tumsevica blanked senior Candice Carlin and junior Ashley Reed in the first doubles spot to start the match. Shortly after, Jaclyn Williamson and Leighann Reilly dropped their match to Ira Aleksova and Lauren Leo by a slim 8-6 margin. Villanova's Courtney Reed and Carla Erskine battled in the third doubles spot, but fell just short by a score of 9-8.
The Wildcats and Red Storm went on the split the singles matches at 3-3. Villanova swept the third, fourth, and fifth spots with wins by Leighann Reilly, Carla Erskine, and Colleen Walter. However, St. John's earlier point from the doubles matches secured the win for the Red Storm.
Villanova continues to take on Big East opponents as they travel to Seton Hall this afternoon and host Georgetown on Friday, April 13 at the Villanova Tennis Courts.
