Women's Tennis Defeats St. John's 5-2

JAMAICA, N.Y. --- On Thursday, March 28, the Villanova women's tennis team defeated the Red Storm of St. John's 5-2. The victory gives the Wildcats their first conference game of the season to even their Big East record at 1-1 and 7-4 overall.

In doubles play, Villanova took home two of three games including an 8-6 win at first doubles. Julie Darne and Ashley Young teammed up to record the win over St. John's Nataliya Kostova and Tessa Lewis to earn their fifth win of the season. Liz Farrell and Erica Walter were also victorious at the No.3 spot with an 8-4 win.

Darne also led the Wildcats in singles action, defeating Vera Efstathious after she retired in the second set. Other winners for the Wildcats included sophomores Jessie Rybacki and Kelly McAndrew and junior Jennifer Zick.

Villanova will return tommorrow afternoon when they host Pittsburgh at the Villanova Tennis Complex at 1:00 p.m.
