Providence Upends Villanova, 6-1

VILLANOVA, Pa. - For the second straight day, the Villanova women's tennis team (3-10, 0-2 BIG EAST) was upended at home as Providence (5-11, 1-3 BIG EAST) picked up a 6-1 victory over the Wildcats Saturday at the Villanova Tennis Complex on West Campus.
Villanova falls to 3-10 on the season and 0-2 in the BIG EAST. The win snaps the Friar's four match losing streak as they move to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Providence jumped out to an early advantage after sweeping doubles action to claim the first point.
At the No. 1 position, Mikelle Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah) defeated Maria Clara Bernardez 6-3, 6-4 for Villanova's to secure Villanova's lone point.
Behind five singles triumphs at the No. 2-6 flights to win its third match away from Rhode Island.
The Wildcats will battle former conference foe Connecticut when they host the Huskies tomorrow at 11 a.m.
